About
The brand “Modeu”, meaning “all” in Korean, is a physical representation of our philosophy on gender, body, and color inclusivity. We hope that the clothes are mere extensions of whoever the wearer is. We strive to approach and value all differences equally, one garment at a time. As we work towards an inclusive morale with the theme of “all”, we believe in being ethical in the process of creating. We are proud to feature natural, eco-friendly fabrics in this collection while offering timeless silhouettes.

    • Transitioning out of plastic packaging, we made it a point to be intentional in selecting all the materials from the box, garment care, size and main label to be less harmful to the environment. Not only were we particular about the hand feel of our products, we wanted to complete the experience by bringing texture to the packaging. The outer packaging is made out of wood pulp compared to generic packaging made of some form of plastic. The garment’s care, main, and size label is all made of cotton; an attempt made to diminish the use of synthetic fibers for small but impactful details on the garment. All packaging is biodegradeable and recyclable.

    • The fleece is 100% GOTS certified Organic cotton combed yarns. The raw organic cotton material and the spinning of yarn was processed in India and the knitting, dyeing, and finishing was all done here in Los Angeles. Because it was manufactured without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals, it’s classified as Organic Cotton. This fiber is also plant derived, which means it’s biodegradeable.

    • Abstract in form, we hoped to create a mascot for what the brand modeu stood for. The proportions are purposefully skewed to make the point that we’re not identifying with mainstream standards on what is acceptable in form. The two figures are not exclusive to specific people - it represents no one’s body and at the same time, celebrates all. The brush strokes are inspired by East Asian ink wash writing and painting, a method that aspired to capture the essense of the spirit of what the artist or writer was attempting to depict. We encourage self-expression and self-appreciation.
  • WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?

    • From conception to finishing, keeping quality and adhering to ethical procedures was on the forefront of our minds. We made sure to work with LA factories that ensured minimum wage for their workers. Additonally, for this Winter collection, we sourced quality fabrics that felt better than what met the eye - something unfussy and soft, something happy for you and for the environment. When aligning values to what the physical and social environment pleads for, there is always a cost. We’re not taking the easy, cheap route but instead, calibrating our focus and practices on what is right for our current climate.
